ACREX India 2015: Fuelling the Growth of Refrigeration and Cold Chain Industry
07 November 2014

India is the second largest producer of vegetables and fruits after China. India on an average produces 85 million tonnes of vegetables and 45 million tonnes of fruits annually. During the period 2009-2017,the cold chain industry in India is expected to register a high CAGR of around 25.8%, which will take the value of the industry to around Rs.640 billion by 2017. Cold chain is seen as a ‘sunrise’ sector in India. India is also the largest producer of milk, and has the largest cattle population with sizeable meat production and a large poultry industry. It has a large coastline with substantial fish production. It, therefore, has a great potential for cold chain development. Refrigeration is at the heart of the cold chain and many other industries like breweries, dairies, ice making, chemical, pharma, entertainment, etc. Energy efficient and sustainable refrigeration technology, systems and equipment are of vital importance to any industrial refrigeration and cold chain project. The provision of an integrated cold chain at various stages, from farm gate to the consumption point, is one of the most important requirements of an efficient food processing industry.
The Government has created National Centre for Cold Chain Development (NCCD) to oversee the development of the cold chain sector in India. The Government also provides financial incentives to cold chain projects through its arms like MOFPI, NHB, NHM, APEDA and MPEDA. Excise duty concessions are also offered to refrigeration equipment for cold storage projects. Participation of refrigeration and cold chain companies has been a regular feature at ACREX India, and they form a very important segment of ACREX India. Companies like A. S. Controls, Bry-Air (Asia), Carel ACR Systems (I), Carrier Airconditioning & Refrigeration, Danfoss, Blue Star, Voltas, Frick India, IC ICE Make Refrigeration, Metalex Cryogenics, Patton Refrigeration India, Rexnord Electronics & Controls, Rinac India, Alfa Laval India, International Coil, Metaflex Doors India and Ice Age have been participating and benefitting from ACREX India. In fact, ACREX India 2014 had a pavilion for cold chain companies under the banner of AAR, steered by Association of Ammonia Refrigeration. To further boost the industry and consolidate the participation of Cold Chain companies, ACREX India will have a special Refrigeration and Cold Chain Pavilion.
