Danfoss India inaugurates Psychrometric Lab to Boost National Energy Security
15 November 2015

With its national and global thrust on energy efficiency, Danfoss India has set up a one of its kind Psychrometric lab to test products for energy efficiency standards. This would help1 manufacturing and designing of energy efficient products in India to global standards. Inaugurated by Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency at Danfoss India’s Platinum LEED rated Oragadam campus in Chennai on the occasion of Danfoss Tech Day on August 5, the lab is a step towards addressing India’s energy security through energy efficiency, by helping stakeholders in performance testing of their air conditioning components, which contribute to the maximum load on power grids. On the occasion, Dr. Ajay Mathur said, “Energy Efficiency is at the core of our energy system development and one must understand that it has a direct impact on our GDP. In fact, every organization across industry should adopt energy efficient technologies to lower their dependence on our already strapped resources. Energy saved today will ultimately serve as the alternate fuel to power both today’s unserved homes and tomorrow’s needs. Industries are a key pivot of our GDP and Danfoss, by investing in the Psychrometric lab, has set the direction towards embracing energy efficient technologies to achieve their sustainability goals. This initiative will further support the Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Industry in developing new innovative energy efficient products.” The Psychrometric lab has been built to carry out testing of air conditioners, chillers and other refrigeration equipment to relevant International standards such as IS, ISO 5051, AHRI and AHRI 550/590. Customers will also have the facility to test the functionality of their applications with Danfoss products, and further customize and improvise solutions to suit their needs. By investing in this lab, Danfoss has indicated to the country and the Government that the industry fully supports its initiatives on energy efficiency and enabling positive climate change. Ravichandran Purushothaman said that Danfoss invests 4.3% of its net sales into innovation globally, in pursuit of energy solutions that address customer requirements and empower them to contribute positively towards energy security. The investment in R&D and the Psychrometric lab will support innovation and help in developing equipment for the existing and new energy efficiency standards. For some of the existing standards in energy efficiency, it is important that consistent innovation is done to bring down the cost of the products. In fact there are new standards being developed for large air conditioning equipment, which will require necessary test beds for testing and further innovation. In addition to this the industry needs skilled technicians who can support the energy efficiency market. Danfoss is making
consistent eff orts to address these critical factors. Danfoss also showcased its Refrigeration and Drives labs, the state of the art Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Learning Centre, the export oriented Production Centre and the fully functional Ammonia Training Unit. The R&D Centre handles the core innovation activities for Danfoss in India and has been specifi cally designed to cater to the cold chain solutions in the country. At this Centre, Danfoss
global innovations are tweaked to meet local requirements. The manufacturing facility at Danfoss’ Oragadam campus recently received LEED Platinum rating. Danfoss employs 24,000 employees globally and serves customers in more than 100 countries. For more details, please visit www.danfoss.com
