Mario Dorin founded Officine Mario Dorin Spa in 1918, and the Italian compressor manufacturer is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The celebrations began in March at MCE Expo-Comfort with an event at the company’s stand. They continued during China Refrigeration Expo with a dinner event. The next event will take place in Germany during Chillventa, on the second day (October 17) with a dinner where the company’s important partners and personalities will be invited. A major event is planned in January 2019 in Florence where Dorin’s important customers and authorities will be present. An internal event for employees will also be held in Florence. During 2018 and 2019 a series of open days will be organized for those who visit the company in FIorence.
Mario Dorin started production in 1918 with open type air compressors and machining tools for vehicle engine adjustment. In 1932, he developed the first open type compressor for refrigeration. In 1952 began the production of semi hermetic compressors. Dorin was the first to offer a compressor with the electric motor onboard. Some of the oldest available compressor images from 1952 are shown in the following two pictures. Dorin has focused since 1990s on environmental issues, developing the first compressor specifically made for inverter use. In the 1990s Dorin participated in a joint venture research with the Norwegian Institute of Technology – SINTEF – for developing a specific compressor for working with CO2 in transcritical phase as refrigerant. In 1991, the first prototype of a transcritical compressor for CO2 was developed. Currently the CD500 and CD600 are Dorin’s flagship series.
Dorin is today a well-known name in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, both in commercial as well as industrial and transport applications, manufacturing about 60,000 compressors annually that are globally distributed.
