India Copper Forum 2016

International Copper Association India (Copper Alliance) held the second edition of its flagship event India Copper Forum on December 20 at Hotel Sofitel BKC, Mumbai. The theme of the Forum was ‘Future with Copper’. Sanjeev Ranjan, MD, ICAI, delivered the welcome address. The other speakers to address the inaugural session were J. C. Laddha,CEO, Hindalco Copper Division; P. Ramnath, CEO, Vedanta Copper Division; D. K. Jain, President, Indian Non-ferrous Metals Manufacturers’ Association (INFMMA) and MD, Agarwal Metal Works; and Richard Xu, Regional Director, ICA Asia. A video message from Chief Guest Balvinder Kumar, Union Secretary of Mines, who was unable to attend the Forum, was played. The concerns expressed during the inaugural session pertained to unauthorised use of commercial grade copper and aluminium in wires and cables, adverse impact of free trade agreements (FTAs) on the Indian copper industry, and unorganised nature of secondary production business. Richard Xu dwelt on the long term fundamentals of global copper demand. Awards were presented for promoting copper excellence to MNRE, IPMA, D. K. Chaturvedi of NTPC, JK Tyres, BIS, CESC, S. R. Bagade (Chief Electrical Inspector, Maharashtra), REC and Schneider Electric India. There were panel discussions on India in 2022, New Opportunities for Copper, Wires and Cables, and Winding Wire where the issues were discussed in depth. The Forum was held in association with Hindalco and Vedanta,
with economictimes.com as the Digital Partner.
