Haier, China’s leading appliances manufacturer, announced on March 29 the ground breaking ceremony of its second industrial park in India at Greater Noida. The company had signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government last September to invest Rs. 3,069 crore over the next three years in two phases, to ramp up the production capacity
of air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and appliances. This park will have the capacity to produce one million air conditioners and two million refrigerators per annum, among other items. With this second industrial park after Ranjangaon near Pune, Haier India expects to generate around 4,000 new direct employment opportunities and over 10,000 indirect jobs. The company said this will serve as an opportunity for vendors and original equipment manufacturers to scale up with increased local production and
lesser dependence on imports.
