Located less than 50 kilometres from the capital of China, Beijing Daxing Airport will become the world’s largest airport along with being the most modern transportation centre. This new transport hub will cost around $12 billion. It will feature futuristic infrastructure driven by advanced technology. The new airport will act as the second international airport for Beijing to relieve pressure from Beijing’s Capital International Airport, which is highly overloaded. With its opening currently planned for September 30, the Beijing Daxing Airport will have the capacity to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021, and 72 million by 2025.

The Daxing airport will be shaped like a spreading flower, where the central hub will be used for passenger processing, ticketing and security. Each of the five petals of the flower will lead to gates, and administrative offices will be located in a sixth petal. By using distributed zones of operation, the airport is set up so that passengers will arrive at the baggage carousel in less than 13 minutes after a flight’s arrival. Robots will perform important tasks like automated security checks. Daxing airport will have high standards for ventilation systems featured in air conditioning units supported by an effi cient set of air heaters and air curtains to ensure comfort and pleasure.

VTS bagged an order for 298 sets of WING air curtains. VTS’ VOLCANO air heaters were chosen to control temperature parameters inside the buildings, and received an order for 162 sets. Both the equipment fit well in the decor of the airport. WING and VOLCANO were selected on the basis of their energy efficiency due to the use of EC motors, and BMS compatibility.
