IGBC Green MRTS Rating Launched
10 September 2016

IGBC, in association with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), organized the second one-day conference on Green Metro Systems at DMRC Metro Bhwan, New Delhi, on May 20. The conference was chaired by A. K. Gupta, Director Electrical, DMRC. Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC, released the IGBC Green MRTS Rating Version 1.0 at the Conference. S. Raghupathy, Deputy Director General, CII was also present. Earlier, IGBC, in partnership with various stakeholders, had released the pilot version of the MRTS rating in 2014. Encouraged by the overwhelming response, MRTS Rating Version 1.0 was prepared. Dr. Mangu Singh stressed the importance of adopting green technologies and highlighted tunnel seepage water reuse and solar initiatives by DMRC. Dr. Prem C. Jain, Chairman IGBC, said, ‘’Sustainability and enhanced commuting experience is built-in during the design stage in all DMRC projects. DMRC has set a benchmark in maintaining ‘Green’ norms and has inspired other upcoming metro systems throughout the country, to follow its path of sustainable development”. He added that over 215 metro rail stations across the country are going the IGBC way. The day is not far when each and every MRTS across the country will be green; this will go a long way towards building a greener and healthier India. A. K. Gupta, Chairman, Conference on Green Metro Systems 2016 and Director (Electrical), DMRC, highlighted the various green initiatives undertaken by DMRC. He said that adherence to green building norms in Delhi Metro starts at the project design phase itself. He congratulated other metro rail projects in the country for going the green way and emphasised the need to take forward the Green MRTS movement throughout the country. DMRC would extend all possible support to other MRTS projects in their green
activities and initiatives. IGBC Green rating plaques were presented for the following projects:
