ISHRAE Circulates Draft Standard for IEQ
28 October 2016

In its quest for advancement of HVAC&R industry in India, ISHRAE has constituted a Standards Committee tasked with formulating Technical Standards. The Committee has come out with testing standards for water chilling machines and VRF systems, published a white paper on refrigerants and is currently working on testing standards for air handling units (AHU) and fan coil units (FCU), which are expected to be completed by early next year. The Standards Committee has identified Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) in buildings as a major area of concern. Various Green Building rating systems emphasize the importance of maintaining good IEQ in buildings. However, in the absence of India-specific reference documents, achieving it has always been a challenge. ISHRAE, therefore, constituted a committee of experts to create an IEQ Standard that refers to work done in this area by both international and domestic institutions, and focuses on the areas of indoor air quality, thermal comfort, acoustics and lighting. The Draft Standard has been preparedand circulated to elicit comments from experts, users and institutions. It has been uploaded on www.ishraehq.in and is accessible to ISHRAE members through log-in. The Standard will form the basis for ISHRAE to carry out further research in this area. It will be formally dedicated to the Industry in the fi rst week of October 2016.
