15th CII-IGBC Green Building Congress

Founded in the year 2001, IGBC is spearheading the 21st century modern green building movement. As a result of concerted efforts, India with over 4.89 billion sq ft has the second largest registered green building footprint in the world, with projects spread across the five climatic zones of the country. Over 4,300 projects are adopting IGBC green building rating systems. IGBC aspires to facilitate 10 billion sq ft of green building footprint by 2022, the 75th year of India’s Independence. Green Building Congress is India’s annual flagship event on green buildings. Institutionalized in the year 2001, Green Building Congress has been offering a platform to share, learn and explore new growth opportunities. Over the years, the event has grown in terms of content, outreach and awareness generation. Green Building Congress 2017 The 15th edition of CII-IGBC Green Building Congress, organised in Jaipur from October 4 to 7, evoked enthusiastic response from delegates and World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) leaders.
The theme for the event was Sustainable Built Environment for all.


Event Highlights
• Rajasthan was the Partner State.
• Hosted WorldGBC’s annual members meet.
• Over 2,400 participants.
• Over 4,000 visitors to the international exhibition.
• Participation from over 30 Green Building Councils of the World.
• 150 projects awarded IGBC Green Building Rating.
• Over 100 green building products and technologies on display at the exhibition.
• 5 new IGBC Green Building Rating Systems launched.
• 2 MoUs inked.
• Awards presented to winners of Green Your School contest and IGBC Green Design Competition.
• Jaipur and Secunderabad railway stations became India’s first two IGBC rated green railway stations.
• Happiest Avadi Phase 1 project in Chennai became India’s first IGBC project to be rated under IGBC Green Affordable Housing Rating System.
• IGBC Special Recognition Awards 2017 and Green Champion Awards 2017 presented.

WorldGBC Annual Members Meet
Coinciding with Green Building Congress 2017, CII-IGBC hosted the 2017 annual WorldGBC members meet. CEOs and senior officials from over 30 Green Building Councils attended the meeting. It offered a platform to share and learn the best practices and success stories from across the Councils. The meet also discussed the way
forward to further accelerate the global green building movement.


Curtain Raiser
Setting the tone for the 3-day Green Building Congress 2017 was the curtain raiser and UTC Distinguished Sustainability Lecture Series organised on 4 October 2017. A highlight of the curtain raiser was the presentation of WorldGBC Chairman’s Award 2017 to Romilly Madew, CEO, Green Building Council of Australia, for her contribution to the global green building movement.


Launch of CII-IGBC Green Building Rating Systems
CII-IGBC launched several IGBC green building rating systems including Healthy Buildings for Occupants; Green Cities (Existing Cities); Green Affordable Housing; Green New Building (Version 3.0) and Green Interiors Rating System. So far, CII-IGBC has launched 21 indigenised green building rating systems including commercial,
residential, cities, townships, schools, healthcare and datacentres. 


International Exhibition
Coinciding with Green Building Congress 2017, a 3-day international exhibition, showcasing over 100 latest and emerging green building products and technologies, was organised. Some of the products on display included CO2 sensors, HVAC systems, waste management equipment and low-flow water fixtures. Over 4,000 visitors gained first-hand understanding of these products and technologies.


Award Distribution for CII-IGBC Rated Green Building Projects
150 green building projects covering Green Schools; Green Railway Stations; Green Metro Stations; Green Affordable Housing; Green Homes; Green Residential Societies; Green Landscape; Green Villages; Green Places of Worship; Green Healthcare Facilities; Green Townships; Green Campus and Green New Buildings were
presented with CII-IGBC Green Building plaques and certificates for adopting the respective CII-IGBC Green Building rating system. As of now, CII-IGBC has awarded ratings to over 1185 green building projects.


Spirit of Rajasthan Celebrated
On the second day of Green Building Congress, a freewheeling discussion was organised on the theme ‘Sprit of Rajasthan’. The discussion brought out the distinctive aspects of Rajasthan’s culture, traditions, heritage and stories.


Other Parallel Sessions
There were sessions on Affordable Housing, Green Schools, Green Hospitals and Green Products and Technologies. Various concepts, success stories and best practices on the topics were shared.


Inspiring Young Minds
In its efforts to inspire young minds and encourage them to come up with innovative and futuristic green ideas, IGBC annually conducts a Green Your School contest supported by Carrier-Toshiba. CII-IGBC also organises the annual Architectural Design Competition, supported by Daikin.


Forging New Partnerships
CII-IGBC inked an MoU with International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), and Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) signed an MoU with Climate Project Foundation. IGBC Special Recognition Awards 2017 and IGBC Green


Champion Awards 2017
IGBC has instituted annual IGBC Special Recognition Awards and IGBC Green Champion Awards. The organisations honoured with the IGBC Special Recognition Award 2017 were Infosys, ITC, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro. Twelve organisations were honoured with the 4th IGBC Green Champion Award 2017.
