ASHRAE Publishes 2014 Version of Green Building Standard

New requirements to further reduce energy and environmental impacts of buildings are contained in ANSI/ASHRAE/ USGBC/IES Standard 189.1-2014, Standard for the Design of High- Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. The 2014 version of the standard includes changes from 67 addenda. Major changes in the 2014 edition include revised building envelope provisions, fenestration orientation requirements, as well as changes and updates made to equipment efficiency tables, reflecting new guidance in ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2013, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Also, carbon dioxide emission factors for different energy sources are updated to match Standard 90.1-2013. In addition, all site requirements are now mandatory, with prescriptive and performance options moved to the mandatory requirements. (Source: The HVAC&R Industry, November 20, 2014)
