Las Vegas Now 100% Powered by Renewable Energy
19 May 2017

The city of Las Vegas is now drawing 100% of its power from renewable energy sources. The goal, first announced in 2008, was realized when Boulder Solar 1, a 100 MW solar plant, went online. The realization of the goals was hastened last year when the city expanded its partnership with public utility NV Energy to deliver the power to run city facilities, including buildings, parks and streetlights, using clean energy sources. To reach the renewable energy goal, Las Vegas reduced its electricity use through sustainability programs and by installing solar panels on city buildings. Las Vegas will also receive power from Hoover Dam beginning the end of 2017.
