China’s Xiaomi is going to enter the white goods space in India next year, making the country’s largest smartphone maker a full-fledged consumer electronics firm, four senior industry executives said. Xiaomi officials are currently identifying potential categories including air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, laptops and small appliances like vacuum cleaners and water purifiers for the Indian market. All the products will be smart appliances based on Internet of Things (IoT), which can connect to the internet and other devices, and can be operated remotely, the executives said. The appliances foray will open up newer avenues of growth for the company in the Indian market where it is growing over 100% year-on-year.
